SalzAlpenSteig Stage 1: Prien am Chiemsee - Grassau

This route follows Stage 1 of the SalzAlpenSteig, opening the long-distance trail with a point-to-point hike from Prien am Chiemsee to Grassau. From the moorlands near Lake Chiemsee, it passes through protected woodland, open farmland, and the Bernauer Achen corridor before reaching the Chiemgau foothills, giving this first stage a noticeably gentler character than many of the route’s later mountain sections. Overnight stays along this section are usually in inns or village accommodations. Standard hiking gear is generally sufficient, though sturdy footwear is a good idea in wet conditions, and water from natural sources should be filtered or treated.
