The circular route around the Schliersee is a classic. However, the eastern shore with the main road is not the most beautiful, so it is worth leaving the lakeshore and instead taking a quiet mountain hike up to the Hohenwaldeck castle ruins. The view from there is magnificent.
The castle itself is largely destroyed, but you can still see the impressive walls that were built by the Counts of Waldeck towards the end of the 13th century. A technically easy but sometimes steep path leads from Fischhausen to the castle ruins and finally back down to the outskirts of Schliersee. On the way, it is worth stopping off at the Schliersberg-Alm. The route finally leads through the village along the western shore of the lake back to the starting point.
