Hausberg: Garmisch via the Bayernhaus

This classic mountain hike leads from Garmisch-Partenkirchen up to the Hausberg, one of the most prominent viewpoints directly above the town. The route follows a mixture of wide forest tracks and serpentine paths that lead through dense mountain forests and across open alpine pastures. A central highlight is the Bayernhaus, a traditional mountain inn at an altitude of 1,257 meters, known for its spacious terrace and unobstructed views of the Wetterstein Mountains. From the summit area of the Hausberg, an impressive panorama of the Alpspitze and the Zugspitze opens up. In the alpine meadows, alpine choughs and various butterfly species can be brilliantly observed in summer, while the forested sections provide a retreat for roe deer. The course is characterized by steady, sometimes steep climbs and requires solid basic fitness for uphill hiking.
