Via Alpina, Stage 51: Oberstdorf - Mindelheimer Hut

This trail is the 51st stage of the Via Alpina, a long-distance hiking route through eight Alpine countries that begins in Oberstdorf and ends at the Mindelheimer Hut. This route is part of the new Via Alpina trail, which was updated in April 2024 and now consists of 116 stages. The trail leaves the bustling town of Oberstdorf and leads back into the wild mountain world of the Allgäu Alps. The route passes through the Stillach Valley, past the Heini Klopfer ski jump, and then climbs steadily up to the high-alpine plateau. The trail winds through spectacular limestone formations and alpine meadows, offering breathtaking views of the Biberkopf and the surrounding peaks. The stage ends at the Mindelheimer Hut, which is impressively nestled between the rock faces. Overnight stays are planned at the hut; reservations are strongly recommended, and wild camping is prohibited. Water is plentiful in Oberstdorf and along the Stillach River in the valley, but becomes scarce during the ascent into the karst highlands; it is important to replenish supplies in good time.
