This trail is the 50th stage of the Via Alpina, a long-distance hiking route through eight Alpine countries that begins at the Prinz-Luitpold-Haus and ends in Oberstdorf. This route is part of the new Via Alpina trail, which was updated in April 2024 and now consists of 116 stages. Follow the course of the purple path to the Schönberghütte and shortly before Oberstdorf you meet the yellow path. From the Prinz-Luitpold-Haus lodge, follow the Heilbronner Weg route until reaching the Schönberg hut. From here, walk uphill to the flowery Laufbacher Eck peak. Via Alpina follows the trail offering great views northwards to the Edmund-Probst-Haus lodge. From there, Oberstdorf can be reached either with the Nebelhorn cable car or by foot.
