This circuit features the Bluff Lookout with views of the Mitchell River Gorge, deep green pockets of warm temperate rainforest and Woolshed Creek. As you walk through the rainforest gully, stepping stones lead you into the Den itself. Tradition has it the Nargun lives there, a fierce being, half human and half stone.
The best way to absorb the eerie atmosphere of the Den of Nargun is from a safe distance. The Gunai/Kurnai people and Parks Victoria ask you to respect this special place by...

This walk follows the namesake river through a beautiful section of Mitchell River National Park. There are plenty of campsites along the banks of the river to make this into an overnight hike if you choose.
As shown, the route goes south to north, but it can be done in either direction, connecting the Den of Nargun area to Angusvale. Enjoy incredible views of the river valley below from the Amphitheatre. The track is pretty straightforward to navigate, but there are some areas where the...

An adventurous trail exploring the Mitchell River National Park in eastern Victoria, located not too far out of Bairnsdale. There are bathroom and picnic facilities located at the Nargun Carpark at the end of Wallers Road.
There are some sections along the way which can become quite slippery after rain, and a few fallen tree branches to navigate. Enjoy the beautiful views along the way.

A very seldom used part of the Mitchell River Walking Track that allows access to the historic Old Weir site from the Gleneladale pump station or final fling as Kayakers may know it.
Starting at a carpark above final fling the walk starts on a 4wd drive track that passes below some historic aboriginal sites and caves.
Once into the bush there is a short steep climb up from Lamberts Flat to a large open grass area. There are some swampy areas here after wet weather.
Once back into the bush...
Trail reviews for Mitchell River National Park
Great circuit with loads of interesting landscapes, second day in a row for me its that good! The rocky hills in the rainforest near the den can be very slippery. Crossing the track after the Mitchell river access to head up to bluff lookout can require crossing a stream depending on how heavily it’s flowing. Can’t go wrong with this one!
