Best trails in Lake Eildon National Park
Lake Eildon National Park is located in the Central Highlands of Victoria. The highlight of the park, as the name suggests, is Lake Eldon. From hiking around the park to cycling, camping, swimming, canoeing, waterskiing, fishing and sailing, there is an activity for everyone. You may spot a few kangaroos, wombats and many beautiful birds.

You can park at the beginning of the looped route, which is located at the end of Wallaby Bay Road. It's important to note that the section between the 4 and 6 kilometre mark can be quite steep, and there are some areas with loose rocks. To tackle this part of the hike, you'll need a moderate level of fitness. Once you reach the top, however, be sure to take in the breathtaking views...

This trail starts off with a steep ascent up Merlos Lookout Track, offering stunning views over the main feature - Lake Eildon. After descending, this shorter loop traces the shoreline of Lake Eildon, soaking up incredible views along the way. Overall, an enjoyable hike. Keep your eye out for kangaroos and wombats along the way!

Throughout the journey, there are several breathtaking lookouts that provide expansive views of the lake and surrounding bushland.

After that it's the descent down the Bedrock Creek Track and then a relatively flat walking track following the shore line back to where you started.

In order to connect Auriferous to Jimmy Spur you'll need to do a section of walking along the road. While not ideal, there are some nice views from Goschnicks Lookout. Return through the forest on Jimmy Spur back to Devils Cove and a dip in the lake.

The lookout is accessible by car and this trail follows alongside the road that has sealed and unsealed sections. This looped route begins and ends from the Perfectcure Creek Carp Park, on the corner of Fraser Park Road and Wallaby Bay Road. Enjoy hiking through the open woodland of the reserve, keeping an eye out for kangaroos and other wildlife along the way. The Coller Bay Walking/Bicycle Track can also be started from the same car park.
