Längseugenweg (Sd01)

Popular circular hiking trail in the Upper Bavarian Forest Nature Park, Bavaria. From the starting point in Thierling, you walk along the gravel path towards Neuthierling. The Calvary with its Way of the Cross and chapel is on the left. Go straight over the subsequent crossroads. Passing two farms on the left, you reach Kühleiten. Here you turn right into the forest. The tarmac road that you soon reach leads to Rauchenberg and Bartlberg. Here, the idyllically situated farms and pastures lie in a large clearing in the forest. After this open area, you enter the forest for a long time. The markings then point to the right onto the path into the forest. After approx. 450 metres, you have the choice of taking the longer hiking trail via Neuhaus or via Tratthöhe back to Thierling. The route suggested here is the longer option and you take the Längseugenweg trail on the left, a beautiful, shady forest hiking trail with wonderful viewpoints. Keep right at the forest crossroads and then walk through the Thurn und Taxis Princely Forest past the Thierlingerschlag and Röthelschlag to Neuhaus. Once there, take a detour to the left to reach the centre of Neuhaus. Here you will find a children's playground and the "Rosenöd" chapel to the south-west of the hill. You should also take some time to visit the castle complex, where the Schorndorf amateur theatre company puts on plays every year. You can also stop for refreshments at the AI Castello inn at the foot of the castle hill. After the sightseeing tour, you return from Neuhaus to the starting point in Thierling via the Thierlberg on the little-used and scenic tarmac road.
