Family-friendly loop in the Bliesgau biosphere reserve, Saarland.
This hike is a real insider tip - it can certainly compete with premium hiking trails, but is less frequented. It leads through the mottled sandstone area in Kirkel Forest - enchanting-looking rocks can be discovered under the shade of the treetops. Even though butterflies can be spotted here in the summer months, the name comes from the curved shape of the route, which is reminiscent of the wings of a butterfly.
Optionally, a detour to Kirkel Castle can be taken and the view from the tower can be enjoyed here. There are also refreshment stops nearby.
Start at the Taubental hiking car park or the car park next to the sand pit.
Highlights of the hike:
- Taubental nature reserve
- Roman excavation
- Optional detour to Kirkel Castle
