Saar-Hunsrück-Steig Stage 5: Losheim am See - Weiskirchen

his route follows stage 5 of the certified Saar-Hunsrück-Steig premium trail, connecting Losheim am See with Weiskirchen on a challenging and athletic section. The hike begins with an ascent from the reservoir to Scheiden, the highest village in the Saarland, where the Sinnenbänke viewpoint opens up spectacular panoramic vistas across the region. After a descent into the wild Lannenbach Valley, the trail leads over rock formations and past a Kneipp facility with a fishing pond. Crossing another ridge, the path reaches the rustic Hölzbach Valley, featuring the Teufelsfelsen rock formation and the historic bakehouse in Waldhölzbach. Next, the trail climbs steeply via the Engelsfelsen rock to the Rappweiler Wildlife Park, which features bison and numerous other animal species. Through the wildly romantic Hölzbach Valley, the path continues past impressive rock faces toward the swimming pool in Weiskirchen, where a short access trail leads into the town center. Cozy refreshments and excellent accommodations are available in Losheim, Waldhölzbach, and at the stage destination in Weiskirchen; wild camping is prohibited.
