Moselsteig Stage 19: Cochem - Treis-Karden

This route follows stage 19 of the Moselsteig, connecting the town of Cochem with Treis-Karden on a historically and naturally diverse section. This moderately long hike leads through shaded high forests, sunny vineyards, and alongside idyllic stream valleys. A scenic highlight located near the trail is the Dortebachtal nature reserve, which features a unique, almost exotic microclimate and a rushing waterfall. Directly on the main path, the Martberg Archaeological Park invites hikers on a journey through time with its faithfully reconstructed buildings of an ancient Celtic-Roman mountain sanctuary before the route concludes in Treis-Karden. Thanks to the train stations in Klotten and Pommern, this stage can easily be split into smaller sections. Overnight stays are available in the numerous hotels and guesthouses in Cochem and Treis-Karden, as well as in the intermediate villages of Klotten and Pommern; wild camping is prohibited. Refreshments can be found in abundance within the welcoming wine villages along the way and at both ends of the stage. Transport is perfectly facilitated by the train stations in Cochem, Klotten, Pommern, and Treis-Karden on the Moselle line (RE 1 / RB 81), offering hourly connections toward Koblenz and Trier; schedules and transit information can be found at https://www.vrt-info.de.
