This route leads from the bustling Moselle town of Cochem up into the tranquil forests of the Eifel to one of the most impressive castle ruins in the region. The trail initially climbs steeply out of the Moselle valley, offering spectacular views of Cochem Castle and the winding river valley. A central highlight is the ruins of Winneburg Castle, which sits enthroned on a mountain spur above the Endert valley. The massive remains of the palace and the mighty keep provide an impressive picture of medieval fortifications.
