Moselsteig Stage 17: Ediger-Eller - Beilstein

This route follows the 17th stage of the Moselsteig and connects Ediger-Eller with the picturesque town of Beilstein along a stretch that is fascinating both historically and scenically. The challenging hike leads right through steep, cultivated vineyards and past traditional wayside shrines. An absolute cultural highlight near the route are the Roman tombs in Nehren, which house the best-preserved ancient vault paintings north of the Alps. After a nature-filled stretch through the unspoiled Briederner Schweiz, the trail leads past the Baroque Carmelite Church and down the famous monastery steps to Beilstein—the Sleeping Beauty of the Moselle, whose dreamy half-timbered backdrop has often served as a film set. Accommodations are available in the guesthouses of Ediger-Eller as well as in the historic hotels and winegrowers’ estates in Beilstein; wild camping is prohibited. Places to stop for refreshments can be found in the wine villages along the route as well as in Beilstein’s diverse range of restaurants. Access is via the Ediger-Eller train station (Eller stop) on the Moselle line; Beilstein itself is excellently connected to the public transportation network via regional bus routes (including to Cochem) as well as by Moselle ferry.
