Ultramarathon WHEW100 2019 - 100km

• Partial Closure Kupferdreh Railway Bridge: The Kupferdreh railroad bridge between Essen-Heisingen and Essen-Kupferdreh will be closed from January 23, 2026, through February 2027 due to construction work. The alternate route continues along the riverbank over the next bridge. This is the official route of the WHEW100 ultramarathon from 2019. The route leads through Wuppertal, Wülfrath, Velbert, Heiligenhaus, Essen, Hattingen and Sprockhövel - so there are always marvellous views of the Ruhr region and the Bergisches Land along the way. The route runs along former railway lines, which are now hiking and cycling trails. It is possible to travel to the starting point on the Wuppertal railway or, of course, on the suspension railway. There are refreshment stops in the towns for those who are not walking the route on the day of the event. In this case, it is particularly important to follow the traffic rules.
