38.9miLength
4,078ftElevation gain
Loop
Mainly on separate bike, field and forest paths, sometimes also on trails. Mostly through the green, through the green belts, nature reserves and parks between the cities of Herne, Bochum, Castrop, Witten, Dortumund. Parts of it go over the old R-bike paths (e.g. R10) that are no longer maintained / signposted across the whole of North Rhine-Westphalia. Highlights of the route: Herne-Süd via Gysenberg and Bövinghauser Hellweg, Werne, Langendreer, Dortmund-Somborn / Kley to the Rhenish Esel, through Witten to the end in DO-Löttringhausen, then on the southwest edge of Kirchhörde via the Bittermark forest to Kirchhörde / Lücklemberg (near the river / stream). Past the zoo and through the northern part of the Rombergpark (slide approx. 200 m there, as it is a pure pedestrian path). Then a bit along the renatured Emscher (current closure at one point must be bypassed - as indicated in the track) to DO-Barop, then past the university and DASA via Dorstfeld to the NGS Hallerey / Revierpark Wischlingen. Then via DO-Marten to the nature reserve Dellwiger Bachtal, Zeche Zollern, Bövinghausen train station, to the Bövinghauser Hellweg, back to the eastern edge of the Herner Gysenberg, through the forest downhill to the starting point Herne-Süd.
