Historic dyke loop in the Elbe River Landscape Biosphere Reserve - Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
This beautiful dyke route requires a good basic level of fitness, but rewards with interesting and marvellous views. The start is at the Boitzenburg harbour car park. The route runs parallel to the Boitze and later circles the area of the shipyard in an anti-clockwise direction. Unfortunately, it has long since been closed down - but it is still possible to get an idea of the large inland waterway vessels and sailing ships that were built here. There is still a former border tower from this period, which has been converted for bats and birds. The Symphonic Willow Walk Boitzenburg also awaits on the way and views over the Sude and the Elbe can be enjoyed. A stop in Boizenburg's beautiful old town is highly recommended.
