The Wank is one of the most popular hiking destinations in the Estergebirge mountains in the Bavarian Pre-Alps due to its comparatively easy accessibility and the fantastic panoramic views from the summit. Although the hiking trails such as the Wankweg are generally very easy to walk on, sturdy shoes and a good level of fitness should be brought.
The start of this challenging route is at the car park of the Wankbahn valley station. There are always new, marvellous views along the way. Fantastic views of the Zugspitze massif and the Waxensteine reward for all the efforts! Rarely is this variety so close together: the Zugspitze above Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the Tyrolean Alps and the rugged mountain world of the Karwendel to the east!
If necessary, the hike can be shortened with the help of the Wankbahn cable car. It is possible to get on and off at the valley, middle or mountain station, all of which are located directly on the trail. It is also possible to stay overnight in the Wankhaus (book in advance).
