Maximiliansweg Stage 15: Tegernsee - Fischbachau

This route is Stage 15 of the Maximiliansweg, a long-distance hiking trail through Germany and Austria that begins in Tegernsee and ends in Fischbachau. The stage begins with a ferry ride across Lake Tegernsee (check schedules and fares). The trail leaves the spa town on Lake Tegernsee, passes the summit of the Baumgartenschneid, and leads hikers to the shores of Lake Schliersee. It winds through pristine mountain landscapes, alpine meadows, and green valleys before ending in Fischbachau near the pilgrimage site of Birkenstein. Overnight stays are available at local guesthouses, youth hostels, and hotels in Tegernsee, Schliersee, or Fischbachau, as wild camping is strictly prohibited on this section. Hikers must carry a reliable water filter to purify surface water from natural streams along the way.
