Hochthörlehütte from Eibsee

This cross-border route leads from the shores of the Bavarian Lake Eibsee up into the Tyrolean mountains on the western flank of the Zugspitze. The path follows a diverse mixture of wide forest roads and shaded mountain forest trails, which ascend steadily but mostly moderately. A central highlight is the Hochthörlehütte at an altitude of 1,459 meters, located directly on the border between Germany and Austria, offering spectacular views of the northern precipices of the Wetterstein Mountains. Along the route, impressive plunging views of the emerald-green Eibsee and its eight islands open up repeatedly. In the steep coniferous forests, spotted nutcrackers and chamois can be brilliantly observed, while gentian and alpine roses bloom along the path in summer. The route is physically demanding due to the elevation gain, but remains a classic experience for mountain hikers and mountain bikers thanks to the good path conditions.
