Through the Boxwood Forest via Hornfelsen

This extraordinary route leads to the southernmost edge of the Black Forest, right on the Swiss border near Grenzach-Wyhlen. The path explores one of Germany's rarest natural wonders: the Grenzach Boxwood Forest, and leads up to the prominent Hornfelsen cliff. The course follows a mixture of narrow natural trails, shaded forest tracks, and spectacular lookout paths along the cliff edge. A central highlight is the dense occurrence of evergreen boxwood, which forms an almost jungle-like fairytale forest here, as well as the panoramic view from Hornfelsen over the Rhine knee all the way to the Swiss Alps. In this special microclimate, praying mantises (in summer), wall lizards, and rare orchid species can be brilliantly observed. The route involves some steeper sections but remains a must for botany enthusiasts due to its fascinating flora.
