Picturesque, idyllic loop on the car-free island of Hiddensee in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. This idyllic loop starts in Kloster and first leads to the Altbessin nature reserve with its protected flora and fauna. Water birds and - with a bit of luck - adders and grass snakes can be spotted here. The route continues along the Hochuferweg trail through the Dornbuschwald forest to the Bakenberg (the highest point on the island) with its lighthouse built in 1888. Bicycles can be parked at the entrance gate. The old Bessin is pasture area. Therefore it is forbidden to bring bicycles and dogs. A path meanders over the headland to the observation tower on the southern tip. On the way there are numerous plants to discover that thrive on the nutrient-poor alluvial land. In addition to various thorn bushes, the splendor of flowers is a highlight in spring. From the observation tower you have a good view of the wind flats in the national park core zone....
