Best trails in Muro-Akame-Aoyama Quasi-National Park
Designated in 1970, Murou Akame-Aoyama Quasi-National Park is located in a mountainous region spanning from Mie Prefecture to Nara Prefecture. This quasi-national park is known for the Akame Shijuhachi Falls, a famous scenic spot. Although it is said to have 48 waterfalls, there are actually 23 waterfalls of various sizes to enjoy. All of the waterfalls are powerful and offer beautiful scenery, but the two we recommend are Fudo Falls and Biwa Falls.
Murou Akame-Aoyama Quasi-National Park is also famous for the salamander, which is a special natural monument of Japan and is said to be a "living fossil." They live in the rivers within the park, but you can also see them at the Japan Salamander Center at the entrance to Akame Shijuhachi Falls. It is a national park with many other attractions such as Mt. Mimine, Aoyama Plateau, and the historic Kaichoji Temple.
