Best trails in Ise-Shima National Park
Ise-Shima National Park, which stretches across the Shima Peninsula in central Mie Prefecture and its surrounding areas, has a vast area designated as a national park, stretching from Ise City, Toba City, Shima City, and Minamiise Town.
The park can be roughly divided into two areas. The first is the inland area with Ise Shrine and the lush natural forest that spreads behind it. The second area is a ria coast area made up of countless small bays and capes created by complex topography and geology. In the surrounding area, there are hiking trails including Yokoyama Observatory and numerous other observation points overlooking Ago Bay.
Compared to other national parks, the park has a higher proportion of privately owned land and a larger population, which means that one of the park's features is that it is possible to gain a deeper understanding of the lives, history, culture, and traditions of the local people.
A variety of water sports are popular in Ise-Shima National Park. You can enjoy sea kayaking, cycling, water balls, and more along the Shima coastline. We also recommend trekking along the Kinki Nature Trail or hiking along the ria coastline while taking in views of Ago Bay and the Pacific Ocean. Enjoy the rich nature and magnificent seascape of Ise.
