Best lake trails in Hohe Mark Nature Park - Westmünsterland
The Hohe Mark Nature Park is located in North Rhine-Westphalia between the Münsterland, Lower Rhine and Ruhr regions. The sandstone hills with their wooded ridges were formed during the Ice Age and are one of the largest contiguous wooded areas north of the Ruhr area. Apart from a few small farming communities, the area is virtually uninhabited and its proximity to the urban area of North Rhine-Westphalia makes the nature park, which covers an area of 1977.81 km², one of the most popular local recreation areas. With 3,890 kilometers of hiking trails, 1,530 kilometers of cycle paths and 350 kilometers of water trails, there is plenty to discover: Heathlands, meadows and pastures, hilly areas, floodplains, streams and a variety of native wildlife.
