#7 of 14 nature parks

The soils, geology and relief of the Südheide Nature Park are of glacial origin. For a long time, the entire area was covered by ice masses from the Saale Ice Age. When the ice melted, masses of sand, debris and boulders were left behind and the typical ground, edge and terminal moraine landscapes were formed.

The nature park is home to many animal species, some of which are endangered. The Lutter heath stream alone is home to over 160 endangered animal and plant species! Otters, sea eagles and kingfishers can also be found here. Numerous animals and plants can also be found in the large forest areas with pine and spruce trees.
