The Steinhuder Meer Nature Park covers around 420 square kilometers. The core zone of the area is the lake "Steinhuder Meer". It also includes many protected areas, which in turn provide habitats for flora and fauna. The extensive moorland areas, floating meadows, dunes, mountains and shady forests of the glacial moraine landscape are home to white-tailed eagles, water buffalo and moor frogs.
