The name of the nature and geopark can be translated as "life course of the earth". This is characterized by folding and erosion, flooding and glaciation, desert climate or permafrost. The landscape of the nature park is no exception. The park was founded in 1962, although it was known as the Northern Teutoburg Forest - Wiehengebirge Nature Park until 2002. Today it is characterized by an important geological heritage within comprehensible boundaries, a functioning management and contributes to regional development, environmental education and the creation of nature-friendly recreational infrastructure.
