The Langedamm-Wiesen nature reserve and the Lower Anna Valley form a section of the young moraine land of the North German Plain. The landscape was shaped during the Weichselian Ice Age. A special geological feature of the nature reserve are the "Oser", which gave the area its name as "long dams".
