The nature park was founded in 2017 and covers 227 square kilometers of the upper Ammertal, the northeast of the Ammergebirge, the Laber-Aufacker massif and the Tertiary coal mountains between Unternogg and the Echelsbacher bridge. The ice-age moors provide a habitat for unique plants, including many orchid species in the nature park, as well as the blue marsh star, feverfew and the yellow-flowering Karlszepter, and the traditional cultivation of the cultural landscape can be experienced with farm tours, animal visits and tastings.
