Oxley Wild Rivers National Park is located in the Northern Tablelands region of New South Wales. It was named after the Australian explorer John Oxley, who explored the region in the 19th century. It encompasses extensive Gondwana rainforests and many waterfalls that are home to an incredible fauna and flora. No wonder it is considered a World Heritage site and is also part of the Australian National Heritage List. It is a great place for hiking, cycling, horse riding, fishing and camping.

The Threlfall Track at Gara Gorge in the Oxley Wild Rivers NP is an easy, informative walk with great glimpses of the river and gorge. The walk follows the remnants of the plume of a long defunct hydro-electric system. The history of this system is well documented with signage along the track. A fantastic loop of the Apsley Gorge Rim that takes in a whole bunch of the lookouts as well as views of the falls.
This is a great route to follow for the whole family with little elevation found along the way.
This area has an abundance of snow gums and New England stringybark trees. There's also a litany of wildlife to spot in this area including platypus in the Apsley river.

An impressive trail through the Oxley Wild Rivers National Park in north eastern New South Wales, located not too far east from Armidale. This out and back route begins and ends from the parking and picnic area at the end of Wollomombi Falls Road.
The first lookout is a very easy walk with a magnificent view, followed by the walk to Chandler view which is a Grade 4 trail - quite steep and has lots of small rocks on the track and can get quite slippery in places.

This is one of the better maintained longer trails in Dangers Gorge, Oxley Wild Rivers National Park. Perfect for those after a longer walk, but not willing to tackle some of the undergrowth on other trails.
This trail is a little more open, and a tad greener. There are a few very small creek crossings which are fun and break up the bush. You’ll find a lovely little log bench at the Mihi Falls lookout. Mihi Falls is much smaller, so is best viewed after some rain.

Departing from Cedar Creek Cottage and following undulating tracks through lush forest all the way to Birds Nest Hut.
