#5 - Schickhardts Flößerweg
Freudenstadt, Baden-Württemberg, GermanyLength: 7.9 mi • Est. 3 h 10 m
The well-known Württembergian master builder Heinrich Schickhardt not only planned cities, churches and castles, but also facilities in the field of water technology. He built bridges and mills and checked rivers and streams for navigability and floatability. Around 1607 he examined the Stockerbach (Musbach) and Kübelbach (Hallwangen) for raftability. At these sections of the stream, Schickhardt has demonstrably carried out investigations of the course of the stream and recorded this in a sketch. The background for this was probably the transport of beech trees from the hamlet of Wald towards Stuttgart.
