The Schlichemtal valley is a unique place: the Umlaufberg at Butschhof and the deeply incised Schlichemklamm gorge are impressive geological and landscape-historical documents. The shell limestone of the gorge was formed 240 million years ago - at that time this area of Germany was still part of a subtropical sea. Numerous fossils of shells, arthropods, echinoderms and ammonites can still be found in the deposited shell limestone. There are also the remains of the medieval Urslingen Castle, which was built almost 1000 years ago. The Schlichemtal valley is home to many animal and plant species that are rarely found in the otherwise cleared agricultural landscape.

The tour is easy to walk with dogs, but a bit muddy after rainy weather. The first half follows the water with cool rock formations. A short detour to the ruins about halfway is worth it.
