Schrammstein Circular Route in Dietrichsgrund to Frienstein

Adventurous hiking trail in the Saxon Switzerland National Park, Saxony. This route leads through the Dietrichsgrund and makes an exciting loop through the impressive rock formations of Saxon Switzerland. The hike can be started at the Beuthenfall car park, which is subject to a fee. There is also a bus stop there. Several via ferratas on the route are signposted for experienced climbers, so you should bring sufficient experience and your climbing equipment with you. Sure-footedness, a head for heights, and a certain basic fitness level are advantageous. The via Ferratas are popular and accordingly full. Waiting times at the stairs are to be expected in some cases. The route begins with the path to the lower Affenstein promenade and finally with the ascent via the twin stairs. This spectacular trail is relatively short but is partly vertical uphill (one-way traffic: twin stairs may only be used uphill). It continues via the Upper Affenstein Promenade to the Wild Hell. This is an adventurous climb through a narrow, lush green gorge, which can be climbed without any problems, however, without additional equipment. The second round over the Häntzschelsteige begins back on the Unteren Affenstein Promenade. This famous climb consists of two sections and is equipped with many tread pins, hand irons, and, in places, a safety cable. The Lange Horn is reached via this, which leads further uphill to the Wolfsfalle and another part of the famous Affenstein Promenade. A highlight of this round is the 455 m high Frienstein. If you want, you can also plan a detour to the Idagrotte. Several steps lead down to the Königsweg, which finally returns to the starting point.
