Herne-Dortmunder- Witten

Mainly on separate cycle paths, country lanes and forest tracks, sometimes also tracks. Mostly through the countryside, through the green belts, nature reserves and parks between the towns of Herne, Bochum, Castrop, Witten and Dortumund. Parts of the route run along the old R cycle paths (e.g. R10), which are no longer maintained or signposted throughout NRW. HIghlights of the route: Herne-Süd via Gysenberg and Bövinghauser Hellweg, Werne, Langendreer, Dortmund-Somborn / Kley to Rheinischer Esel, through Witten to the end in DO-Löttringhausen, then on the south-western edge of Kirchhörde via the Bittermark forest area to Kirchhörde / Lücklemberg (near the river/stream). Cycle past the zoo and through the northern part of Rombergpark (push approx. 200 metres there, as the path is purely for pedestrians). Then a stretch along the renaturalised Emscher (current closure at one point must be bypassed - as indicated in the track) to DO-Barop, then past the university and DASA via Dorstfeld to the NGS Hallerey / Revierpark Wischlingen. Then via DO-Marten to the Dellwiger Bachtal nature reserve, Zollern colliery, Bövinghausen railway station, to Bövinghauser Hellweg, back to the eastern edge of Herne's Gysenberg, downhill through the forest to the starting point in Herne-Süd.
