Idyllic cycle tour along the Rhenish Donkey. The "Rhenish Donkey" was once a vibrant railway link connecting the industrial sites in Dortmund, Bochum and Witten. Mainly on separate cycle paths, country lanes and forest tracks, sometimes also tracks. Mostly through the countryside, through the green belts, nature reserves and parks between the towns of Herne, Bochum, Castrop, Witten and Dortumund. Parts of the route run along the old R cycle paths (e.g. R10), which are no longer maintained or signposted throughout NRW. Official route of the permanent CTF organised by RSV Dortmund-Nord. You can find further details directly from the organiser: http://do-nord.de/ The route winds its way to Bochum on minor roads with little traffic. Here the route follows a well-developed railway line (Rheinischer Esel) via Witten to Do-Löttringhausen. Afterwards, the route leads through an astonishing amount of greenery to the Rote Erde stadium. Only the last few kilometres are on asphalt again.
