The route follows the traces of mining past old collieries and tunnels to the medieval castle ruins of Hardenstein, which are picturesquely situated directly on the Ruhr. The starting point of the hike is the Nightingale colliery. It goes through dense forest with a few meters of altitude to a small castle with a sculpture gallery. You can stop for refreshments along the route and there is the option of arriving by museum train (reachable by bus and train).
