Challenging hike in the Berchtesgaden National Park, Bavaria.
The Watzmannhaus, located below the Hocheck (one of the Watzmann peaks), is probably one of the best-known DAV mountain huts. The Watzmannhaus can be reached via the AV trail 442 from the paid car park / from the Wimbachbrücke bus stop. The route is easily accessible with sufficient fitness, sturdy shoes and suitable equipment.
However, the Falzsteig (from kilometre 7) is a particular challenge. The rocky path, partly secured with wire ropes, is steep and sometimes scrambling up and down. Even though the Falzsteig is classed as relatively easy, a head for heights and surefootedness are a must here. After a refreshment stop or overnight stay at the Watzmannhaus, you return to the valley along the familiar route.
