The hiking route starts in Ohlstadt and leads very steeply uphill, especially in the first 3 kilometres to the Wankhütte. From here, the route is not quite as steep, but still leads to the summit of the Hirschberg on partly stony paths without shade. You should be sure-footed and have a head for heights, especially around the summit. You then return to the starting point via the Bärenfleckhütte.
