RTF Canal Tour 2020 of the RBC - Marathon

From the starting point in Rendsburg, this cycle marathon leads along the Kiel Canal through the vast landscape of Schleswig-Holstein. The route, organized by the Rendsburger Bicycle Club (RBC), mostly runs parallel to the world's busiest artificial waterway and offers views of gigantic container ships and historic ferry stations. Historically, the canal was opened in 1895 to connect the North Sea with the Baltic Sea, which had a lasting impact on the region's economy and landscape. A good level of fitness is required to cover the enormous marathon distance, with the often strong wind posing an additional challenge. The terrain remains technically uncomplicated on asphalted side roads and paths close to the shore, making the tour a real endurance test for long-distance cyclists in the "land between the seas".
