This hike leads through the natural valley of the Schwentine, one of the longest rivers in Schleswig-Holstein. The start of the loop is at the hiking parking lot at Oppendorfer Mühle.
The trail runs directly along the winding banks of the river and crosses shady deciduous forests. A particular highlight is the Oppendorfer Mühle, a historic site where the water of the Schwentine has been used for centuries. Kingfishers, grey wagtails and grey herons can be observed in the alder swamps close to the banks, while trout can often be seen in the clear water.
