Kitzeberger Forest and Kieler Foerde from Moenkeberg

This diverse route leads along the east bank of the Kiel Fjord, combining maritime flair with shaded forest idyll. The path starts in the coastal village of Mönkeberg and leads through the hilly Kitzeberg Forest to Kitzeberg Beach. The course follows a mixture of paved waterfront promenades, natural forest trails, and sandy beach sections. A central highlight is the constant contrast between the wide views over the fjord—with its passing ferries and cruise ships—and the silence of the old beech forests that reach right up to the coastal cliffs here. In the wooded sections and along the water line, kingfishers, white-tailed eagles, and various duck species can be brilliantly observed, while the beach invites for shell hunting. The route involves some gentle inclines through the coastal hills but remains a delight for hikers and strollers thanks to the well-maintained paths.
