The route begins in the quiet Nonnweiler, which lies in the middle of the Saar-Hunsrück nature park.
Right at the beginning of the hike, a slight incline awaits you to get to the dam of the Nonnweiler reservoir. With 20 million m³ of water, it is the largest reservoir in Saarland and Rhineland-Palatinate. In addition to being used as drinking water, the reservoir is also used to generate electricity.
After walking along the banks of the reservoir, you come to the Otzenhausen Celtic Park. There a Celtic village takes you 2,000 years back in time. In addition to 10 "residential buildings", there are warehouses to explore. which were reconstructed on the basis of historical finds.
After looking at the Celtic village, the route continues to the 10.5 meter high Celtic curtain wall. The popularly known "Hunnenring" was already 100 BC. At that time it was built and bordered a Roman temple complex. Guided tours are offered.
On the way back to the dam, you finally pass the Nonnweiler Planetary Trail. However, this is left after about half of the way to get back to Hermeskeil.
In Hermeskeil, a bus can be taken from Donatasplatz to get back to the starting point of the hike.
