Saar-Hunsrück-Steig Etappe 20: Mörsdorf - Kastellaun

This route follows stage 20 of the certified Saar-Hunsrück-Steig premium trail, connecting Mörsdorf with Kastellaun on a diverse and partially demanding section. Right at the start, hikers have the option to cross the impressive Geierlay Suspension Bridge, though it can also be bypassed. The trail first leads through the pristine valleys of the Mörsdorfer Bach and Mastershausener Bach. Running parallel to the Masdascher Burgherrenweg premium loop, the route climbs the Burgberg on a partly rocky path, where a unique shelter offers a perfect spot to rest. After crossing a high plateau, the trail returns to the valley floor, passing the restored ruins of Balduinseck Castle, historical mills, and old mining shafts. Via the Dielaysteig path, the route reaches Bell and continues through broadleaf forests past ancient Celtic graves before the Hohe Buch viewpoint opens up an excellent view of the historic destination of Kastellaun. Excellent refreshments and cozy accommodations are available in Mörsdorf, Bell, and in great variety within the castle town of Kastellaun; wild camping is prohibited.
