Moselsteig Stage 18: Beilstein - Cochem

This route follows stage 18 of the Moselsteig, connecting the historic village of Beilstein with the popular town of Cochem on a challenging section dedicated to the heritage of steep-slope viticulture. The hike leads along rocky trails directly on the ridge's edge, requiring good surefootedness due to the demanding terrain. The physical effort is rewarded with spectacular panoramic views of the deeply carved river valley. A scenic highlight is the path running beneath the sheer, vertical cliff face of the Brauselay, which opens up a postcard-perfect view of the stage destination, Cochem, and its majestically towering Reichsburg (Imperial Castle). Overnight stays are available in the historic hotels and guesthouses in Beilstein, as well as within the wide selection of accommodations in Cochem; wild camping is prohibited. Refreshments can be found in abundance within both traditional wine towns. Transport is excellent: Cochem features a major train station on the Moselle line (RE 1 / RB 81) with direct connections to Koblenz and Trier, while Beilstein is easily accessible from Cochem via regional bus lines or seasonal excursion boats.
