Saar-Hunsrück-Steig Stage 16: Rhaunen - Sohren

This route follows stage 16 of the certified Saar-Hunsrück-Steig premium trail, connecting Rhaunen with Sohren on a historically and scenically diverse section. The hike initially accompanies the Idarbach stream, passing historic mills like the Weiterbacher Mühle. From the Reitzenmühle mill onward, the path runs together with the Kappleifelsen-Tour and Via Molarum premium loops through a stretch of forest. Between Laufersweiler and Niederweiler, hikers experience an atmospheric change between forests and meadows before reaching the medieval village of Dill, home to an imposing castle ruin and a baroque village church. Past the Dillerbach stream, the trail follows a reconstructed section of the ancient Roman road and passes a replica of a Roman watchtower. Finally, following the course of an old railway line with great views of the Idarkopf mountain, the route finishes in Sohren, where a short access path leads into the town center. Cozy refreshments and excellent accommodations are available in Rhaunen, Dill, and at the stage destination in Sohren; wild camping is prohibited.
