Saar-Hunsrück-Steig Stage 10: Börfink - Morbach

This route follows stage 10 of the certified Saar-Hunsrück-Steig premium trail, connecting Börfink with Morbach on a challenging, heavily forested section. The hike runs directly through the Hunsrück-Hochwald National Park and offers extraordinary encounters with nature. The trail guides hikers through the mystical Ochsenbruch high moor and passes the legendary Siegfriedquelle spring, famous from the Nibelungen saga. A major highlight is the ascent of the Erbeskopf, which stands as the highest peak in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate at 816 meters (2,677 feet), offering sweeping panoramic views from the summit. Continuing onward, the route provides views of the historic Hoxel railway viaduct before passing through the scenic Ortelsbruch recreation area and finishing in the center of Morbach. Excellent refreshments and cozy accommodations are available in Börfink, at the Erbeskopf, and in great variety at the stage destination in Morbach; wild camping is strictly prohibited within the national park.
