Werne - Möhnesee

This route connects the historic salt works town of Werne with the wide expanses of water of Lake Möhne, crossing the diverse agricultural and wooded landscapes of the Westphalian Bay. Much of the journey follows the Pengel-Anton cycle path, a former railroad line that provides a smooth corridor through the rural scenery. Considerable physical stamina is required to make the transition from the flat floodplains of the River Lippe to the hilly forest climbs of the Arnsberg Forest Nature Park. Historically, the destination is marked by the Möhne Dam, a huge masonry structure built in 1913 that created one of the largest reservoirs in Germany. You can expect a consistent mix of tarmac cycle paths and gravel roads that offer wide horizons and tranquil views of the forest. The terrain is technically uncomplicated and relies on endurance rather than special skills, while the tour ends at the vast "Westphalian Sea".
