This loop leads around Lake Zülpich, a water sports lake that emerged from the former Frechen open-cast lignite mine. The trail usually starts at the main entrance to the lake park, the site of the former state garden show, and offers wide views across the water. Reedbeds and young willows grow along the banks, forming the transition to the open agricultural landscape of the Zülpicher Börde.
