This long-distance cycle circuit on the official route of the Kiepenkerl Cycle Marathon RSV Münster highlights the characteristic park landscape of the Münsterland region. Starting in Münster, the route leads through a mosaic of meadows, fields and historic estates before reaching the Baumberge, the only significant mountain range in the region. The majority of the ride is on asphalted side roads and rural cycle paths. The elevation gain is concentrated in the limestone hills and includes climbs towards the Longinus Tower, the highest point in the area. The event is named after the Kiepenkerl, a traditional Westphalian itinerant trader who once roamed between the farms and the city with a pannier. Münster itself is known as the cycling capital of Germany and is famous for its 1,200-year history as a Hanseatic city and episcopal seat.
