Idyllic loop near Simmerath, North Rhine-Westphalia. The idyllic loop (signposted No. 27) begins in Eicherscheid and essentially leads along natural forest paths and paths. Eicherscheid surprises with pretty half-timbered houses and the Church of St. Lucia. The route also passes a 300-year-old Linden tree. Numerous old grave crosses from the 17th and 18th centuries are on the cemetery wall. Past the typical Eifel hedges, the trail goes leisurely downhill along the “Holzbachtal” down into the “Belgenbachtal.” The “Belgenbacher Mühle” (the oldest grain mill in the Monschauer Land) is an excellent place to take a break. On the way back towards Eicherscheid, you pass the Asdorf miners' cross, commemorating the mining accident in 1930. We now return to the starting point via the Drosselbach. The final steep climb of this circular route can be a bit of a challenge. Overall, the trail is fantastic for families.
